of metadata & toolkit...

---begin core dump---

so adam, dave and dave have been ping-ponging audioblogs that contain rich comments on rss enclosures, audio content, future of media, ipod platform, technology progression etc, etc, etc...

dave slusher mentioned the need for metadata associated with these audioblogs - concur wholeheartedly...

he does something interesting, probably because of his npr background - he provides in text, a brief summary of what he's speaking about on each of his audioblog entries...

that adds to the metadata that's already associated with the enclosure, and from there, say the good folks @ technorati could log the ping, index and notify those interested - it'd be a start, but we definitely need to see more ways of applying rich metadata (i would assume at the time of creation or posting - dave sifry made mention of this in a gillmor gang discussion recently too)...

adam states that his program, daily source code, is the "place that developers and users come to party together"...

this is very much needed...

one of the dilemmas of software development is the potential for products to be developed that do not resonate with the intended userbase's needs...

one of the neat things about the web is it's ability to accelerate collaboration and communication - especially between those creating and those utilizing...

in the early days of the web everybody was looking for tools that would facilitate this interaction, but the tools at the time really weren't ready for the masses - you needed to be knowledgeable & able to tweak to get the most out of whatever was available...

today, however, the toolkit for collaborating and communicating freely is fairly robust, almost globally ubiquitous and getting simpler and simpler for even the luddite fringe to grok...

on the audioblogging front - things are definitely looking up & dave don't stop using adam's name - there are only a few of you producing content "well"...

keep pushing the concept - those of us who listen will tend to follow all the good threads anyway...

my personal toolkit is as follows:

my household is all mac and i use windows xp at work...

i use adam's ippoderb03 on the home powerbook & ippoder for windows 1.10 on the work stinkpad...

both sync to itunes, though only the home system then sync's to my ipod, which is a somewhat dated 15gb ipod currently about 1/2 full with music, audiobooks & now a growing selection of audioblogs, panel recordings and interviews...

i plan on adding mp3'd talk radio broadcasts soon too...

and i might just buy an ipod mini to sync to my windows systems & to lighten the load when i'm snowboarding this winter - that extra 2 ounces could make all the difference on the last few runs of the day ;)
